“Sir, you gotta let go.” Remember that line from the original “Top Gun”? You know, the part where “Iceman” (played by Val Kilmer) cut off “Maverick” (played by Tom Cruise) while going in for a shot to shoot down “Viper” (played by Tom Skerritt).

Maverick ends up in a flat spin with no chance of recovering from it. This forces Maverick and his Weapon’s Safety Officer “Goose” (played by Anthony Edwards) to eject. Goose whacks his noggin through the cockpit canopy. They gently parachute to the ground… Err water and splash down like a “Russian Sputnik”.

Maverick, devastated, is seen cradling a lifeless Goose in the drink. The search and rescue helicopter arrives on-station, and the rescue swimmer reaches them.

“You gotta let go. Sir, you gotta let go!”

Well, the same thing happened to me. In a way, but not really. You see, I dumped my gamer hybrid, irons, and wedges. Sent them away to renowned pre-owned golf outlet, Golf Avenue. That company, based in Montreal, Quebec has done very well for themselves in the pre-owned golf equipment space.

As I stood there at Fed Ex, it came to me. The end of an era had just occurred. I had just let my “Goose” go.
