Chapter 1 -“The First Time”
Well, it happened. I put on my big boy pants on and did a little adulting. What did I do that was soooo, impressive?! I Alexander Toth went out and got real glasses.
It was a big deal because I’ve never bothered to go the distance, like Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. Since my aging eyes have steadily become worse, I decided to get my eyes checked (that was in April).
For the longest time, I’ve needed glasses but just opted for the readers that you find at stores like Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or Dollarama. For the record, my ophthalmologist says that “there’s nothing wrong with them.”
So; I end up getting two pairs. Sunglasses… or shall I say “aviatOR’s”? And then a pair of everyday glasses. Instead of going with bifocals – even though I’m a grandpa, I’m not a “fogey” – I went with progressive lenses.
Adjusting to them for driving, looking around, or walking didn’t take long. But I heard that wearing them for golf is another matter entirely. As a matter of fact, I mentioned this to my followers on social media. A few chimed in, and it wasn’t too encouraging.
So I took advantage of a trip to Buffalo where I got gas for the equivalent of 75 cents/litre (here at home, it’s $1.50/litre) and turkey for 48 cents per pound. Are you kidding me… In this economy?! Before coming home, I stopped at the Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome in Tonawanda, NY, to put my new goggles through the test.
