So, here’s a little bit of a conundrum that I’ve encountered. Is this a relatable situation if you’re reading this?

For a number of reasons I’ve had to sit back and really re-evaluate my golf game and every facet that surrounds it. Especially with everything that’s transpired health-wise within the last couple of years. Most notably the amputations that took place in 2023. The need for this really became apparent after a ParaGolf Ontario event that I played in – my first competitive tournament since 2012 – and even moreso after a recent visit to Club Champion in Williamsville, NY. While the visit confirmed a number of things this particular day was a SERIOUS eye-opener.

No stones have been left unturned during this time. I’ve given much thought to everything from my golf swing to the golf equipment that I play, including golf balls. Is there really a need for someone with my – now lack of club head speed – to play golf balls like the Titleist Pro V1, TaylorMade Golf TP5, Srixon Z Star, or any other “tour-level” golf ball for that matter?

The reality is that I’m nowhere near the golf er that I was 10 years ago, or less. Other than health-related issues themselves the lack of repetitions whether it be rounds played or driving range sessions have played an integral role in the demise of my game. That’s the hidden beauty about golf, much like life itself, you only get out of it what you put into it.

While I’m not too concerned about putting and my short game my long game is another matter entirely. I’ve lost a ton of club head speed. In 2017, I had a swing speed of 110 mph (topped out) following a stroke, arthritis, neurological issues, and the amputations I’m now swinging the club at a whopping 85 mph.

The former golfer in me places a premium on acoustics and feel. The current golfer in me also feels that way, yet it shouldn’t be the case. So here I am stuck in the middle of two drivers.

For all intents and purposes the distance is the same. “Driver A” is slightly more compact and is better in the sound and feel category. There is a degree of forgiveness “Driver B” emits a sound that I’m not particularly crazy about but man, when my swing is off, it shines.

Which driver would you play? By the way, this isn’t a rhetorical question.
